Meet the team members at Basalay, Cary & Alstadt Architects, Inc

Principals

Graduating from Kansas State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Architecture Alstadt began his career with Booker Associates, Inc., 1982-1984; Yarger Associates, Inc. 1984; Fruco Engineers, Inc., 1985; and Charles E. Bell Architects, Inc. September 1985. He then joined Amato/Reed Associates in 1989 where he was responsible for schematic design, design development and construction administration. Project type experience includes education facilities, retail shopping centers, banking facilities, a branch library, a municipal swimming pool, a munitions manufacturing facility addition for the military, a multi-story public housing, office warehouses, an employees’ credit unit for a major brewery, a manufacturing and warehouse facility for a major paper products manufacturer, a corporate office building, and miscellaneous repairs and construction administration for the U.S. Postal Service in the Midwest region. Mr. Alstadt joined Fredericks & Basalay Architects in July 1993, has nineteen years experience in educational facilities, and was promoted to Partner, January 1999.

Graduating from the University of Illinois in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural studies, Kurt went on to receive a Master Degree in the Architectural practice option in 1992. While at the University of Illinois Kurt received various awards including the Hastings Memorial Fellowship and was a nominee for the Edward C. Earl Prize for Excellence in Architectural Design. He was inducted into the Gargoyle National Architectural Honor Society where he served as an Executive Board Member. Kurt worked summers at the Peoria firm of LZT Associates. He started working part-time for Fredericks & Basalay Architects in 1992 and was hired on a full-time basis in 1993. Since that time, Kurt has worked on a variety of project types with an emphasis on Public and Private Multi-Family Housing and Illinois Capital Development Board Projects.

Mr. Rimmele has worked extensively as a project architect for developers working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Rural Development) and the Illinois Housing Development Authority to rehabilitate over 40 housing projects throughout Illinois. Furthermore, his participation in handicapped accessibility seminars has enabled him to complete over 100 Accessibility Surveys/Transition Plans for Apartment Complexes in five states.

As a project architect for state-funded Capital Development Board Projects, Kurt has worked with Using Agencies such as the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to address accessibility concerns. Kurt has attended seminars and conferences on site accessibility. He has surveyed/designed accessibility improvements for State Parks throughout Central Illinois including:

  • Wildlife Prairie State Park Facility Analysis, Peoria, IL Accessibility survey for the 2000-acre facility
  • Accessibility Modifications at Illini State Park, Marseilles, IL Survey and design of accessibility improvements for the 510-acre facility
  • Accessibility Modifications at Buffalo Rock State Park ,Ottawa, IL Survey and design of accessibility improvements for the 298-acre facility
  • Accessibility Modifications at Big River State Forest & Delabar State Park, Keithsburg, IL
  • Survey and design of accessibility improvements for the 2900-acre facility

While at Southern Illinois University, Matt served on various student organizations including American Institute of Architectural Students.  Matt worked summers as a head carpenter for Lamps Home Improvement, Inc., located in Peru, IL. During this time he was involved in construction of new homes and home renovation projects.

Matt started working for Basalay, Cary & Alstadt Architects in 1999. Since that time, Matt has worked on a variety of projects. Matt became a licensed architect in 2005 and LEED Accredited in 2009. He has performed key project roles on:

Team Members

Mr. Cary began his career in Central Illinois at the firm of John Hackler & Associates, Peoria, IL. Cary joined the Fortune 500 Company of Herman Miller, Inc. in 1979 as a Project Manager and later became the Regional Facility Manager for the firm. In 1989, Cary relocated to St. Louis to join the A/E firm of Sverdrup Corporation as an architectural project manager and facilities management consultant. He joined the firm in 1994 as a partner. Since then, he contributed as Principal-In-Charge to many projects. Principal office projects were:

Angela began working part-time, as a student intern, for Fredericks, Basalay & Cary Architects in 1998. After graduation, she was hired on a full-time basis in 2000. Since that time, Angela has worked on a variety of project types with an emphasis on corporate municipal offices, space utilization and programming. Graduating from the University of Illinois in 1973 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree (5 year curriculum) Paul Basalay began his professional career with a Denver firm. He subsequently became associated with John Hackler and Associates in Peoria, Illinois where he acquired the position of project architect. He later assumed a similar position with the firm of Gerding, Richards and Schonbachler of LaSalle, Illinois. Prior to joining in partnership with Fredericks, he practiced as sole principal of his own firm, Architectural and Construction Services of Peru, Illinois.

During the course of his architectural experience, he carried out a variety of architectural responsibilities, for principal among these were:
