Harding Grade School was expanded and remodeled as part of a larger project to upgrade all four schools in the Consolidated Community Unit District #2. The existing Harding School facility consisted of a century old, 7,000 square foot wood frame classroom building and a 35 year old, 5,000 square foot masonry gymnasium. In order to have a final cohesive facility, the siding was removed from the existing wood frame building and the building was clad with face brick to match the 13,300 square foot addition which houses a new cafeteria, library, administrative offices and seven classrooms. In addition to Harding Grade School, upgrades and additions of various sizes were made to Sheridan Grade School, Serena Grade School and Serena High School. In total 48,000 square feet of new space for administrative offices, cafeterias, gymnasiums, libraries, classrooms, special education classrooms, and multi-purpose rooms was provided for the school district.
